THANKYOU ANTON

With the final round of the season and the 4th XI an unlikely chance to play finals, we say goodbye to a champion of our club, Anton Ponnamperuma.
After 18 seasons, Anton has called time on his cricketing career.
Anton has been a stalwart of the 4th XI throughout his time at the club, ever reliable with his subtle changes of pace and sometimes a little bit of turn.....but only a little!
He has mentored many young spinners and seen a number of current 1st and 2nd grade players come through the 4s as a youngster, showing them the ropes of Premier Cricket along with his good mate Bob.
Anton leaves us with a shopping trolley's worth of accolades. He is a 4th XI bowling champion on numerous occasions. He is a life member, inducted in 2023. He has taken 232 wickets at an average of 17.05! And made a whopping 136 runs with a top score of 25 which was only last year, proving he only got better with age.
Anton will leave a gaping hole, not only in the 4th XI but in the club too! Always a smile and joke away, Anton has defined what it is to be a Magpie and we will miss his presence dearly.
Thankyou for everything Anton, we love you and all the best for the future!
FITZY GETS A TON OF GAMES

Congratulations to Liam Fitzpatrick who plays game 100 for the club this week!
Liam has set the world on fire, scoring 6 tons in 1st grade, 19 fifties along with a Stackpole Medal and an entire utes worth of other awards as well!
Arriving at the club during a transitional period, Liam has been a shining light and firmly stamped himself as the clubs premier player and one of Victoria's top young batters!
He is a model of hard work, dedication and commitment to the craft of batting which inspires his peers to better themselves too!

Well done on reaching another ton Liam, we hope the Vic selectors still have an eye on you and we can't wait to see what you do in your next 100 games!

Welcome to Jack's Q&A Corner brought to you by Snack HQ! This week I sat down with a man who's literally done it all this year, batted, bowled, fielded, captained 3rd grade and coached! That's right its our fun loving 'Head of Shred', Anthony 'Stubbsy' Stubbs!
1. You're a very well travelled man, where is your favourite place to jet off to?
Stubbsy: There were 2 places I really enjoyed - First one was Freiburg in Germany which was a lovely small town that has a gorgeous river that ran alongside it. You could sit in the river on the rocks there in summer and chill with a beer. Second was Utrecht in the Netherlands. Has a really nice nightlife and river again! I could also coach at Kampong cricket club which as an added bonus to coach in a different country.
That's so cool you can coach cricket in Utrecht, who would've thought that would be a possibility not too long ago! Perhaps you've played a part in Netherlands world cup run without even knowing! And agreed I really loved the smaller German cities too when I've travelled! That region is so beautiful, like out of a Disney movie!
2. What excites you most about being a fast bowling coach?
Stubbsy: Being able to help the person + the player. My philosophy is "see the person, coach the player". I think that's often missed. Outside of school, family and friendships - sporting clubs have a big impact on kids growing up. So I hope some of the teenagers I could captain in the 3s took something away from me! Such as Aarav not blaming his mum for forgetting his warmup shorts!
Love that motto, more coaches should approach their practice like that! And yes, you don't need to tell me twice about some of these young bucks playing tricks in 3rd grade.......they will learn one day, hopefully soon for our sake!
3. Your Facebook name has 'Jbj' as your middle name, I hypothesised it stands for 'Just be Jogging', is this true?
Stubbsy: Hahaha, 'Jon Bon Jovi' 😂 I went through a phase... But they were my favourite band for a long time when I was a hopeless romantic. He's also the reason I love my long hair.
I would never have picked Jon Bon Jovi but that does make a lot of sense! Livin on a Prayer is sometimes how I've felt captaining the 3s this year..........
4. When you got your cricket kit for the year, did you go to Rebel Sport and ask for the Ponting Kahuna package?
Stubbsy: When one of the boys commented, I'd forgotten all my gear was Kahuna! I loved Kooka back in the day, but it is surprisingly older than you'd think... I just clean it.
But.. if I could pass on some wisdom - Buy from someone you know. Small bat maker or startup (Badger!). Your money goes straight into their pocket supporting their business & family.
I genuinely thought you bought it brand new but that goes to show how if you look after your gear it can last a long time! And yes 100% Cobba is a master and the quality we get from him is outstanding! Miss seeing those big dingers onto Camberwell Rd off Cobs bat but the residents at the Aged Care Home have never felt safer!
5. If I come over for dinner, what are you cooking for me?
Stubbsy: Burgers! Massive fan of a good burger. Always buy decent mince and make the patties yourself with some flavour and seasoning. BBQ them - I like to put a bit of 'Stubbs BBQ sauce' on them after the last flip while they're still on the grill + pickles and cheese. Toast the buns as late as possible and sauce both sides - usually dijonnaise and an expensive BBQ. Side of chips and away we go! Probably a fancy craft beer to wash it down, or a stock standard German pilsner (they're all the same).
Oh boy, don't tempt me with the 'Stubbs BBQ Sauce', that's going straight in my basket...... I did work at Grill'd for 3 years and this sounds delicious, home made chips as well, nice and crunchy too please! And a German pilsner sounds outstanding!
Thankyou to Stubbsy for playing! Find out who is next on Q&A Corner in the Finals Week 1 Newsletter!
