The Swoop Newsletter - Round 5 Edition 2024/25

Brought to you by

Hello Magpie Community,

Unfortunately this will be the last newsletter prior to the New Year as I am heading overseas. I know, I know I'm a bit teary too but trust me after a few days you'll get over it. Don't miss me too much!

But not to worry, Scooter will continue to run our socials with all the usual content including teams, round recaps and player of the week.

Looking forward to catching up on the upcoming month and providing you with more Q&A and trivia in the New Year!

Have a safe and Merry Christmas!

Go Pies!

Jack

1st XI Debut - Charlie Simondson

Congratulations to Charlie Simondson who will wear cap #170 for the Camberwell Magpies this weekend against Casey-South Melbourne.

King Charles joined us from Fitzroy-Doncaster this year and has made his mark early in the season having taken 13 wickets in the first four rounds at an average of 10.54 whilst also scoring 66 last week with the stick!

Wishing you all the best for Saturday and may your glorious run continue!

Keep next Saturday 30th Nov free for the McQueen Financial Group T20 Community Day!

It will be a jam packed day of cricket, food and fun so get on down to experience everything the Pies have to offer!

Welcome to Jack's Q&A Corner brought to you by Ark Capital Funds.

This week, I thought it was about time we got one of the clubs big dogs on, a Senior Consultant at a big 4 accounting firm, a man not afraid of the concrete jungle, even less afraid of a dumbbell starting with the number 2 and a former Youtube influencer! That's right, it's Griffin 'The Batman' McComb!

1. Being the official CMCC king of shred, how much shred is enough shred to be considered shred?

Griff: If you can say the word ‘shred’, put on some bangers and find yourself in the church of iron then you are well on your way to finding your true destiny in the land of ‘shred’.

Shreeeeeeddddd yeeeeessssss, Griff loves a bit of Alexis Jordan - Happiness to put him in the shredding mood. If you ever have the pleasure of seeing Griffs biceps in action, you would be forgiven for mistaking him for Marcus Stoinis!!

2. On the flip side, you are also known for a quiet blow up after a low score, is there a particular framework, strategy or game plan to focus on for those aspiring to achieve a big blowup?

Griff: Cricket is unfortunately a game where you often have more failures than successes (especially as a batsman), so it can be frustrating when you can’t contribute to helping your team win games! A key strategy is to not let the umpires hear it!

Agreed, although if you adapt the cheat code all your failings will disappear! It's really quite simple. I feel like the fairy god mother from Shrek 2 (the best Shrek), making dreams come true. I was expecting you to say the key is to lower the vocal chords to 'Batman status' and start growling as you've become accustomed to doing on field!

(the dark knight rises)

3. Being a corporate cowboy like Lord Edmund do you subscribe to the RMs, tight polo and airpods regime?

Griff: RM Williams are the expected footwear in the concrete playground, just as Ricky Ponting always used a Kahuna. However, I haven’t donned the tight polo x airpods combo which may only align as the uniform of the Lord Supreme Leader.

Yes the full kit is reserved for our Emperor! Let's hope the RMs are big enough to fill that massive role of Senior Consultant you currently hold! Look out concrete jungle, Griff is coming!

4. In the past we've watched you dive deep into stocks, a YouTube career and golf, what can we expect next from the O3 Facility? Griff: I’d love to get into Baseball and/or Pickleball. Might have to be a winter hobby I take up!

I could see you playing pickleball. It's the perfect 'in' sport that is still kind of unique and quirky but you could totally wear a Rafa Nadal singlet and show off those pipes and maybe a cheeky headband to bring out your eyes...... I think you'd also be an elite outfielder or pitcher with your wing if you were to play baseball too!

5. If I come over for dinner what are you cooking for me?

Griff: I’d go with a classic, roast chicken with roasted potatoes, pumpkin, broccolini, parsnip and onion. Vanilla cheesecake for dessert.

Don't tempt me with a roast, boy oh boy this butters me up big time! Accompanied with cheesecake, I'm that Vince McMahon eyes popping out of my head meme right now! Sounds delish!

Thankyou to Griffindor for playing! 10 points to you sir!

Q&A will return with the newsletter in the New Year! And I've got a ripper lined up! See you then!

Welcome to Tone's Trivia, brought to you this week by Chargrill Charlies! Thankyou for your answers last week! Here is your leaderboard as of Round 5:

ROUND 5 LEADERBOARD:

Equal 1st - Griffin McComb, Tom Donaldson & Cody Shipp - 4 points

Equal 4th - Reuben Jamieson, Mark Dwyer & James Jarrett - 3 points

The rest have scored 2 points or less but there are still plenty of chances to catch up!

The questions will become more difficult in the New Year to define our winners!

A massive thankyou to our sponsors Physioworks Health Group & Chargrill Charlie's for their ongoing support of the segment!

A reminder that the following prizes are up for grabs:

First Prize: Physioworks Health Group Massage Voucher

Second Prize: Chargrill Charlie's Voucher

Last weeks answer - D) Shane Mays

It was 2nd XI captain from back in the day, Shane 'Shinwari' Mays who got the call up to the 1s after Fek departed for Vic duties. Unfortunately he was not required as Ben Rowles and Oli Gunning each made tons to steer us home 1 wicket down!

Round 5 Tone's Trivia - Our CMCC batsmen have made the most of the flat tracks down at Casey over the years. Who holds the best batting average of 89.6 against Casey?

Follow the link below to submit your answer

Tones Trivia will also return with the newsletter in the New Year! See you then!
