The Swoop Newsletter - Round 3 2026/27

Brought to you by

Aarav Iyer (4ths) - 69 runs. Backed up his award from last season, setting the foundation for a winning total for his team.
Jack Di Stefano (3rds) - 68 runs. Played second fiddle to his captain in setting up a huge one day score, even if it was Watson, both teams play there.
Tom Sheehan (C) (3rds) - 125 runs. First ton for the club for the year and a no-brainer to be captain of this week's side.
Kamal Singh (2nds) - 161 runs on debut. Gave us a sniff during a monster chase.
Kane Scott (2nds) - 57* runs. Another debutant, gets in the side as a batsman.
Pratham Patel (4ths) - 37 runs, 4/35 and a run out. All round performance of the week in a tight win.
Jack Evans (WK) (4ths) - 29no, 0 byes, 1 stumping. I like the keepers that get a clean sheet with no byes as well as some handy runs.
Lucas Jones (3rds) - 4/39 off his overs, did the damage in a big win for his side.
Jakey Pietz (1sts) - 3/77, fresh off the plane from India, clearly craving Aussie food, but picked up his first 1st X1 wickets instead.
Coby Fitzsimmons (2nds) - 3/81, batting a bit low but was the most successful bowler in a mammoth score. Or perhaps they actually held some catches off his bowling?
William Walker (1sts) 3/58 - brought the Frankston Innings to a quick finish after a 400 plus score looked possible.
Andrew Procopiou (3rds) gets in as 12th man this week. Bat's a bit, bowls okay and made a run out in his match.

PIETZ RETURNS FROM U19 AUS DUTIES

(pictured front row second from right)
Last week we welcomed back Jakey Pietz from his Australian U19 tour of India! The tour consisted of 3 ODIs and 2 four day tests over a three week period. Unfortunately the Aussies came up short in every game however, our man Pietzy still left his mark on Indian soil. Jakey played in 3 matches, with standout performances being 1/58 off 16.4 overs and 26 off 107 in the first test along with 1/56 and a cameo of 10 off 12 in the 3rd ODI.
Being able to contribute on the international stage as a bottom ager is seriously impressive and we look forward to Jakey bringing these valuable experiences back to Camberwell this season!
Being bottom age U19 also means Jakey remains eligible next season for Australian selection and the next U19 World Cup in early 2028 along with Victorian Metro U19 selection over the next two seasons!

Jakey is firmly one of Australia's brightest talents and we congratulate him on his outstanding achievements to date! Keep up the outstanding work and we hope to see you in the green and gold & black and white for many more years! Go Pies!

Welcome to Jack's Q&A Corner brought to you by Drummond Golf Kew! This week, I sat down with a fresh face at the club, he's got a Bumrah style action and is an exciting young talent, that's right, it's Ojas Taneja!
1. You've been given the nickname OJ, do you know who OJ Simpson is? Or is there a generational divide in knowledge there?
Ojas: I have heard of him; apparently he is or was some NFL player but other than that i have no clue abt OJ Simpson. Someone once called me that couple years ago; i thought it was a character from the simpsons, until today.
Crazy to think that a few years is the difference between people knowing 'The Trial of the Century'. "If the glove don't fit, you must acquit". I'm sure the Juice appeared on The Simpsons at some point too!
2. You're new to the club this year, where were you playing previously and who got you down?
Ojas: I was previously playing at Richmond Cricket Club and Brighton Cricket Club. I came down to Camberwell’s open trials, where Stubbzy saw me bowl and gave me an opportunity to join the U18 squad. He also recommended me for senior cricket. Everyone at the club has been really welcoming and supportive, and I’m excited to be part of the Magpies, keep improving my game and contribute to the teams success!
Glad to hear you're feeling welcome down at the Well! And not the first time Stubbsy's picked a winner, what can I say, the man knows fast bowlings.
3. Do you think Marnus should have been picked for this test or should we put George Bailey's head on a pike?
Ojas: I do reckon Marnus could be picked. But more on that was Maddinsons picking. I felt the selectors maybe should look into bit of young talent like Connolly, instead of more experienced older players. Marnus on the other hand hasnt had the greatest days but still being young, can also push into the test cuz he has time after more solid performances. I do also understand where they are coming from as selectors and respect their desicions as such cuz well we dont really know how such teams are crafted.
Yes agreed some very interesting selections from George but the team keeps winning so he's doing something right! Maddinson really is a fairy tale so lets hope he gets a ton in the next test, if selected!
4. Are you a Stars or Renegades man and any thoughts on privatisation of the Renegades?
Ojas: I'm more of a Sixers man to be honest. I came down from NSW a few years ago, thunder got me started sixers went the way. In terms of Privatisation of the renegades; i feel like is a good thing in the way that a private team, has more opportunities for young rising talent, like franchises in the IPL which have also started their mini state leagues in india. The privatisation i feel allows this to happen in aussie cricket where we get more talent and players rising.
The Sixers! So you're a fan of Moises Henriques and Spotify, I like it! And yes privatisation seems to be the topic of the summer but I reckon its just been poorly marketed. Almost every international sporting code has privatisation and noone cares so, I don't think it will change things too much. And with our man Brendan Drew up at CA HQ, I feel very safe!
5. If I come over for dinner what are you cooking for me?
Ojas: I'd cook you a solid indian dish called paneer tikka and paneer butter masala. Actually id get my mum to cook it for u; cuz i got no clue how to make it, if i try i may fail badly 😂. I can though make you some Garlic naan with it and lather it up with butter; one of my specialties 🧑🍳.
Oh no, we are back to mummy cooking me dinner.......but I'll take the naan and I guess you're not an adult yet so fair enough. This dinner does sound delicious though, perhaps we can have a repeat of last year and have the Taneja's cook us Thursday night dinner and you will be in the 1s the next week.......nothing like bribery based selection lol! (Disclaimer: this is a joke and selection is always very well thought out and fair....)
Thankyou to Ojas for playing! Stay tuned to see who's next on Q&A Corner!
