Proudly brought to you by Biggin Scott Boroondara

Hello Magpie Family, Welcome to the 2023/24 season! It has been a big off season for the club with a number of key changes on and off the field. We farewelled a stalwart of the club in Peter Warner OAM as president and welcomed Mark Graven and Tim Nelson as Co-Presidents. We've celebrated our spin coach Paul Jackson being awarded life membership of Cricket Victoria. We've also welcomed a number of new players and coaches who have been busy since July preparing themselves for a big season ahead. We would like to thank all our sponsors, new and ongoing, for their support and we ask you to support them as much as possible for their investment in our club! Stay tuned for next weeks Swoop Newsletter, for all the latest club information before round 1 against Ringwood, including a full breakdown of debutants, sponsors and a message from our new Co Presidents. And don't forget our season launch is next Thursday (5/10) evening after training at 7:30pm in the club rooms. Please RSVP by this Tuesday (3/10) to (see more details below). We can't wait to welcome in the new season with you all! Looking forward to an awesome season for the Pies! Jack Di Stefano Media & Communications Manager #gopies #neveryield

Adelaide Pre-Season Tour 2023 Last weekend, 15 of the best Pies ventured west to the 'city of churches', for two practice games against South Australia's Under 19s. The players were able to utilise Karen Rolton Oval, the very best facility SA has to offer outside of the Adelaide Oval! Friday saw the boys engage in fielding practice, followed by two one day games, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Shantanu Bhaiya shone with the ball in game 1, taking 3/8 off 6 overs, leading the Pies to bowl out SACA for 106. With the bat, Griffin McComb partnered with Tom Scott and Shorye Chopra to steer the Pies home for a comfortable victory. The winning ways continued on Sunday with Hamish Burrill taking 3fa and an even contribution from the bowling cartel kept SACA to 205 off their 50 overs. In return, Atharv Deshpande partnered with Liam Fitzpatrick and Shorye Chopra to bring home a second victory and firmly cement the Pies as the dominant team of the weekend. A very worthwhile and rewarding adventure for all involved and a great winning start to the season. A big thankyou must be given to SACA for their hospitality and we look forward to continuing this trip next year. Bring on round 1!

Kilmore Practice Weekend The remaining squad members who didn't travel to Adelaide made the arguably more scenic journey to Kilmore, the traditional pre-season home of the Pies. It was our first time back since 2019 due to covid but it still brought the anticipation and excitement of a new cricket season. The hardworking folks from Kilmore delivered a fantastic mid-September wicket which allowed the coaches to operate a scenario based day of play on Saturday, followed by a 40 over game on Sunday. Some stand outs from this scratch match were the two returning Pies, Tom Vanderslik and Stuart Cann who showed the young boys how its done with the bat, whilst Max Burn and Mitch Traplin demonstrated their class with the new ball. The weekend also gave many of our new Pies the chance to showcase their skills out in the middle for the first time, whilst getting to know some of the clubs veterans. Overall, it was a successful weekend in Kilmore, with all involved feeling confident heading into our final two weeks of training prior to round 1. We would also like to thank the Kilmore Cricket Club for their hospitality and we can't wait to be back next year!
