CMCC Juniors achieve a Clean Sweep of Finals Success!

ree

The wonderful success of our Junior teams continued over the weekend, with all 4 eligible teams claiming victory in their semi-finals, and our U12 ECA 100 team winning the inaugural grand final on Monday night.

This means another busy weekend ahead with four teams lining up in Grand Finals around Boroondara.

After a convincing 113 run win over the Ashburton Willows U16 Mixed team, our CMCC U16Bs sailed through their semi. Consistency in both batting and bowling played an important role with Aarav, Tom C, Max and Peter all making welcome scores over 30 runs, with Tom P controlling the wicket beautifully with 4/13. They meet Deepdene Uniting on Sunday, who are sure to be a tough opponent.

Our 14B seemingly cruised to victory winning by 5 wickets against Trinity Willison, controlling the field and wicket brilliantly to cap TWCC score to just 74 runs. In a team effort, the boys made a confident 78 runs to declare victory – a welcome early finish in very hot conditions. They meet Hawthorn Boroondara in the finals on Sunday.

The 12As started the day by making a very impressive total of 263 – with 50s from Ollie H, Tom D and Tom F really setting the team up for greatness. While it took a few overs for the boys to settle into the field in hot conditions at Anderson Park, they were able to defeat Hawthorn Boroondara U12s by 120 runs. Consistent bowling at the stumps, some impressive catching and clever stumpings showcased the depth of talent in this team. They will need to bring their A game once again on Sunday as they meet their traditional rivals Ashburton Willows U12As.

Finally, our 12Bs were excellent achieving  their victory in the semi final. Playing the modified rules instigated by Cricket Australia in years gone by, the boys withstood the heat and played 4 sets of 20 over innings across the day to win comfortably in the last innings chasing down the aggregated total of 6/152 set by a strong Glen Iris CC Under 12 mixed team with 10 overs up their sleeve and concluding their innings on 6/155. Steady batting was the secret (Xavier 19 rtno., Jahann 30 rtno and OJ 24 no)  Again, some brilliant catches sealed the match, with the team staying focused in the field despite the heat. They meet Balwyn Blasters in their final on Sunday.

Follow the junior teams on Instagram @cmccjuniors to keep updated with their progress on Sunday the 16th of March.

Welcome to Jack's Q&A Corner brought to you by Silvan. This week I sat down with our big recruit for this year, a man who keeps to himself but hits big bombs, that's right, it's Arjun Nair!

1. There's a great video of you on YouTube where you describe 5 things you can't live without. Have any of those 5 things changed? (For reference they were your watch, car, phone, hair product and Xbox)

ArjunHaha yeah those things stay the same.

A mysteriously short answer but what can we learn from this, Arj loves a bit of bling, to travel, to talk and scroll, to look slick and play some games.

2. What have you enjoyed most about your first year at the Pies?

Arjun: Enjoyed the whole environment at the club and more importantly the fact that all teams are in the top 4, which is outstanding.

Great to hear you've loved our club! Although I bet you were loving media street earlier in the year when Dave pumped up ya tires a bit!

3. Do you really think Lax could be the next Shane Warne?

Arjun: Could be the next Shane Warne or Alana King- take your pick

The only similarlity between Lax and Warney is their inadequate vegetable intake! Otherwise, I think we need to deflate that big head he's got and bring him back to ground control for a reality check!

4. Word on the street is you love a chilled Saturday night on the couch, what show are currently watching or would recommend?

Arjun: I would recommend The day of the jackal - only 1 season

I just googled it, it's got Eddie Redmayne in it! Sounds good! Perhaps we could get you to your first social function by hosting a Netflix watch party!

5. If I come over for dinner what are you cooking for me?

Arjun: I probs won’t trust my cooking for others to eat, so will most likely uber eats something for you

And here it is ladies and gentleman, the ultimate downfall! I knew there was something and it's the kitchen! This is two disappointing dinners in a row, I'm looking for something unique, a cultural experience, flavour flavour flavour, not grease and salt. Maybe we can put some of the old BBL cash towards some cooking lessons!

Thankyou to Arjun for playing and those riveting answers! Who will be next on Q&A Corner, well if we are still alive next week, you'll find out!

That's right it has been over six years since we won a senior final! It was the 2nd XI vs Fitzroy-Doncaster at the Well and in that game the infamous Steve Singh scored a big ton to get us over the line! Verve bowled ok too.....

Really enjoyed the depth in The Swoop Newsletter Finals Week 2 Edition 2024/25  the player stats match analysis and behind the scenes insights added great context to the finals. As a new pawtenant balancing work pet care and daily tasks can be tricky so I turned to The Pets Help for extra support. Having that assistance lets me focus and stay on schedule. Also, being able to secure an ESA letter for travel helps me ensure my pet and I can manage stress during trips.

Reading this brought back memories of the energy and nervous excitement around finals though mine were spent in the library rather than on the field. I was buried in research, racing against deadlines, and trying to make sense of my data. During the most intense phase, I turned to top dissertation writing for some much-needed support. It wasn’t about taking shortcuts, just having someone in my corner like a coach on the sidelines reminding me to keep going.

Really enjoyed reading this edition of The Swoop, the behind-the-scenes insights and team updates make the finals feel so alive. It actually reminded me of a recent online exam I had on event planning and sports culture. To keep up with everything, I leaned on an online exam taking service, which gave me room to focus on understanding the game beyond the books.
