The Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club will commence its search for a new Senior Coach following the departure of Ian Stanger from the role.
After one season as Senior Coach, Stanger advised the club last week of his decision to stand down from the job and return to Western Australia in the coming weeks.
“It is with regret that I will not be continuing in my role with the Magpies as life is taking me back to Perth,” Stanger said in his address to the playing group.
“It has been a great pleasure to be involved with Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club and whilst the past year has served up its challenges, 2020-21 was a unique cricket season that will stay in the memory.
“Many thanks for the opportunity to work with you all and for making me feel welcome. I do hope it's not the last time that I will be around the Well.”
Stanger was appointed to the role of CMCC Senior Coach in July last year. He immediately assumed the task of guiding the club through the unique circumstances presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and has helped put in place the building blocks for the Magpies’ return to finals action in the coming seasons.
CMCC President Peter Warner OAM thanked Stanger for his efforts as Senior Coach of the Camberwell Magpies and wished him all the best on his return to the west.
“It is with much sadness that we say farewell to Ian, who did an admirable job in what was an unprecedented year,” Warner said.
“It was a tough year with many challenges on and off the field; not least with a new Senior Coach having to meet a whole new group of players over Zoom meetings, organising restricted training sessions in the COVID-world and no clubrooms at McQueen Park for the first half of the season.
“Ian has been the corner stone of a change in culture and direction at the Camberwell Magpies and we greatly appreciate everything he has brought to the club.
“It is a pity that life circumstances take him back to Perth, but we wish Ian and his partner all the very best for the future.”
The club will commence its search for a new Senior Coach immediately. Details regarding the application process for the role will announced on the club website in the coming days.
