James Wiseman hits out in the practice match against Greenvale Kangaroos.
The journey to the start line has been a tough one, but Victorian Premier Cricket is back and the Camberwell Magpies are ready to kick off their 2020/21 season against St Kilda this weekend.
After a long winter spent making the most of the permitted recreation time with personal preseason fitness programs, the Pies returned to the track at the end of October and have since had two practice matches against Greenvale Kangaroos and Ringwood.
Attention now turns to the Saints in the first round of the season proper this weekend, where the First XI (CitiPower Centre) and Third XI (Harry Trott Oval) will play away, while the Second XI (McQueen Park) and Fourth XI (Watson Park) will be at home.
This will be followed by fixtures against Ringwood, Prahran and Fitzroy Doncaster in a short burst before the Christmas break. To view the full 2020/21 season fixture, click here.
With all matches this season to be played in the 50-over format, the Pies will be looking to their mix of exciting young talent and experienced heads in Andrew Fekete, Simon Hill, Tom Russ and Will Walker to lead the club back to finals, after all four teams missed out last year.
The club is also excited to announce the four captains which will lead our rise up the ladder this year. Following his retirement from first class cricket, the Magpies will benefit from having Fekete back at the helm of the First XI side for the entire year, while Shane Mays will return to the post of Second XI captain after having a year off last year.
Mays previously led the Second XI to a grand final in 2017/18 and just short of another one the following year in 2018/19.
Luke Prior takes on the role of leading the Third XI, while Robert Capstick will again take charge of youngsters (and also the not so young) in the Fourth XI.
Good luck to all four teams this weekend and hopefully we can celebrate a successful Magpie Day at the Season Launch on Saturday night.
