CMCC Juniors Report: October 2020

Updated: Oct 29, 2020

Hopefully it’s not long now until we can celebrate the beginning of another season of cricket at the Camberwell Magpies.  We will watch the Premier’s announcement this Sunday with great hope that community sport resumes in the next couple of weeks and we look forward to hearing from Cricket Victoria and the ECA & iEGC next week with an updated return to train and play timetable.  We will share this information with you via email as soon as it is available.

Thank you to everyone for embracing our deposit payment registration process this year.  We are pleased to see so many returning players and we extend a very warm welcome to our new players.  We have completed the team selection and grading process and we have nominated 2 x U10 teams, 3 x U12 teams, 2 x U14 teams and 1 x U16 team in the ECA and 1 x Stage-1 team in the iEGC.

We will publish the team lists when we have confirmation of the season start dates.  We have a couple of vacancies in our U16 team and it is looking likely that we will be combining with another club to field an U18 side this year.  We also have a couple of vacancies in our Magpies Blazers girls team and we would love to hear from new players aged 9-11.  Please encourage anyone who is interested in joining us to email Priscilla Duncan (Junior Administration Manager) at cmccjuniors@tpg.com.au.

In anticipation of ongoing COVID restrictions in Melbourne, we won’t be hosting our Juniors Season Launch this year.  We are sad to miss the opportunity to connect with you in person, announce our teams and present caps to our new players.  Also, we won’t have the ability to sell and distribute apparel as we have in previous years.  We are currently setting up an online store for apparel purchases (cap, playing/match top, training top and hoodie) and details will be sent to families via email.  In the meantime, please make sure you son has cricket whites or black leggings/tracksuit pants for your daughter, abdominal guard and playing kit ready.

If you are experiencing hardship and require assistance with setting up kit for your child please contact Garran Duncan (Junior Coordinator) on 0413497809 for a confidential chat.

The final piece of the Juniors puzzle for this year is the Woolworths Cricket Blast program.  We plan to offer a modified program in Term 1, 2021.  We expect that it will be different to the last couple of seasons but we are committed to offering this important grassroots program if the restrictions in Melbourne allow.

We understand that many Melburnians have found maintaining an active lifestyle challenging during the current lockdown.  With cricket on the horizon and the weather starting to warm up (sometimes!) now is a great time to go to your local cricket nets and get some batting and bowling practice in.  Don’t forget to stay within 5kms of home and only a maximum of 5 people from 2 households at any one time!  Fingers crossed we’ll see you soon for some training and matches.
