The Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club wish to formally announce the retirement of one of its favourite sons, Chris Thewlis.
“I want to thank the Camberwell Magpies Club for 17 fantastic years. I came down from the bush as a 15 year old, not knowing anyone, or anything, about cricket. I am so grateful for all of the opportunities, friendships and memories made at the Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club. The list of people to thank is far too long, so I’ll sign off by saying I love this cricket club and all the people involved so much. I will always be the biggest supporter and get down to the ground every chance I get. Go Pies!”
This brings to an end a fine 17 year career which commenced as a fresh faced teenager from Wangaratta. A batter with few peers as a pure ball striker, he played some of the most exhilarating knocks seen by a Camberwell player in recent years, his double ton against Kingston, sublime century against Melbourne University, and brutal takedown of a talented Essendon attack a couple of years ago, come to mind. However, his role as a generous, caring team mate and peer will be equally missed by all at the club.
We wish “Cob”, Grace and Charlie all the very best for the future!
