The Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club is pleased to announce its 16-man squad to compete in this year's one off Under 16 Premier Cricket competition.

As announced by Cricket Victoria in October, the statewide Youth Premier League carnivals for Under 16 Boys and Under 15 girls have been suspended for the upcoming season due to timing and budget impacts arising from COVID-19.

In its place for this season is a five-round Under 16 competition to be run by the 18 Premier Cricket clubs.

The Camberwell Magpies squad is as follows:

> Ollie Will (Canterbury CC) > Henry Smith (Camberwell Magpies CC)

> Jimmy Thewlis (Wangaratta Magpies CC) > Sam Mazza (Glen Iris CC) > Patrick Forrest (Boroondara CC/Balwyn CC) > Ed Nelson (Malvern CC) > Ronan Appleby (South Warrandyte CC) > Nick Francis (South Camberwell CC) > Cameron Proposh (Glen Iris CC)

> Henry Lasscock (Canterbury CC) > Jack Carey (Canterbury CC) > Will Helliotis (Donvale CC) > Gabe Kennedy (Trinity Willison CC) > Simon Greene (Balwyn CC) > Jez Rigoni (Rovers United Bruck CC) > Zac Fraser (Caulfield Grammar) > Sam Olsen (Edinburgh CC)

The re-introduction of a Premier Cricket-aligned underage competition is consistent with recommendations arising from a completed Premier Cricket strategy review with one key objective being to create a stronger connection between community cricket, Cricket Victoria-administered youth pathways and Premier Cricket.

Camberwell Magpies Under 16 Premier Squad Coach, Grant Hudson, said he had assembled a strong squad of players following two trial sessions during November.

"We feel we have picked an extremely talented and balanced squad that we expect to do well in this competition," Hudson said.

"We have a really good mix of players from not only community clubs in our local area, but also from regional Victoria as well, so it will be fantastic for all of these players to be involved in a Premier Cricket environment.

"We will be running three training sessions on Sunday 29 November, 6 and 13 December leading up to the first game on December 20 at McQueen Park.

"We also have planned a cap presentation for the squad on Saturday 12 December after the First XI match at McQueen Park from 6pm onwards."
