Season 2016/17 is Brendan’s fifth year at the club and his fourth as playing coach.
His experience in the first-class arena and devotion to meticulous preparation has had nothing but a positive influence on our players and has created an environment on which success can be built. Brendan’s eight years of experience in professional cricket squads which coincided with a successful era in Tasmanian cricket lays the foundation for the Magpies to rise up the table.
As Captain of the 1st XI we look forward to seeing Brendan leading from the front with on field performances with bat, ball or in the field to take the 1st XI on the journey to ultimate success. We look forward to seeing Brendan progress our club further still, with presence in finals across all grades our goal which give us the opportunity for Premiership glory and Club Championship success.
Neil came to the Magpies for the start of the 2013 season and has proved to be an invaluable resource on game day.
More recently, Neil has moved into a playing role as captain of the 4th XI and has done an important job of mentoring the club’s next flock of stars.
Particularly in the white ball format, Neil’s knowledge of the game and ability to produce valuable match data has had a particularly positive influence on the 1st teams one day cricket.
Neil is the ‘Education & Training Coordinator’ at Cricket Victoria which is Neil’s most recent entry in an impressive coaching resume, including Level 3 Accreditation, experience playing and coaching in Scotland, work with the Auckland & New Zealand youth teams, a Runner’s-Up award in Auckland’s Coach of the Year, and an extensive background in women’s representative cricket which currently includes a role as Assistant coach (Spin Bowling) with the Vic Spirit & Melbourne Renegades WBBL teams.
Steve played 119 District (Premier) matches with Richmond and Waverley/Dandenong as an opening/top-order batsman and useful off-spin bowler.
He came across to the Magpies off the back of a couple of seasons as part of the St. Kilda coaching group and coached the Under 18 South East Breakers in the 2013/14 Pathway competition. This pathway experience has Steve perfectly positioned to promote the development of our young group.
Steve is also a qualified Level 2 coach and has a wealth of cricket knowledge and experience. Steve brings the harder ‘old school’ philosophies that are too often forgotten. Steve is a terrific resource to reiterate the philosophy of ‘finding a way to get it done’ that will have a positive influence on the way the Magpies play their cricket.

Damian was a giant of the Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club, both figuratively and literally. A long time captain, and club coach, he was named in both the Camberwell Magpies 1996 – 2006 (captain) & 2007 – 2016 Team of the Decades.
After his time at Camberwell, Damian moved down to Geelong to live and joined the Geelong Cricket Club in a captain/coach role, and also had a stint as an Assistant Coach with the Melbourne Renegades.
Returning to the club in a part-time role for the 2016/17 season, Damian has already had a massive impact with his ability to provide technical guidance and expertise to the playing group in all disciplines.
